Na primavera de 2000 a banda começou a compor, contratou Don Gilmore (que já havia trabalhado com Pearl Jam e Sugar Ray) e criaram o primeiro álbum da banda, Hybrid Theory. Em julho de 2002 saiu Reanimation, que trazia versões remixadas das faixas do primeiro e mais duas canções do EP, “My December” e “High Voltage”.

Em 2003 lançaram Meteora, disco que estourou nas vendas logo nas primeiras semanas. A seguir, veio o disco ao vivo Live in Texas, que vinha junto com um DVD. Em 2004 se uniram ao rapper Jay-Z para produzir um álbum com canções mistas dos dois artistas, Collision Course, como “Jigga What/Faint” e “Numb/Encore”, que passou meses tocando nas rádios.

Em 2007 lançaram o álbum Minutes to Midnight, que atinge os primeiros lugares da Billboard 200. Desde 2000, o Linkin Park é uma das bandas de rock mais bem sucedida comercialmente nos Estados Unidos.

A banda concluiu o processo de gravação e escolha das músicas que estão presentes no seu novo álbum, intitulado Minutes to Midnight, que foi lançado mundialmente no dia 15 de maio de 2007, álbum este produzido por Mike Shinoda e o famoso produtor Rick Rubin, que já produziu discos de bandas de peso, como System of a Down, Slipknot e Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Segundo a própria banda, este álbum soa menos nu metal do que os outros, fato que pode ser comprovado após ouvir o primeiro single de Minutes to Midnight, “What I´ve Done” (que também foi trilha do filme “Transformers”), liberado nas rádios americanas no dia 2 de abril de 2007. No dia 4 de maio de 2007, uma semana antes do lançamento, o álbum inteiro caiu na internet em redes bittorrent. A canção mantém as características do Linkin Park, mas é diferente de tudo o que eles já fizeram. Este era o objetivo da banda, criar um som novo mas que ao mesmo tempo os fãs ainda identificassem como sendo o Linkin Park.

Além disso, três integrantes da banda trabalham em projetos paralelos. O mais conhecido deles é o Fort Minor, grupo de rap formado por Mike Shinoda, que já fez muito sucesso em seu primeiro álbum, The Rising Tied. Outro projeto paralelo é o do vocalista da banda, Chester Bennington, o Dead by Sunrise (antigo Snow White Tan). Além de Chester, fazem parte desse projeto Amir Derakh e Ryan Shuck. Julien-K é o nome da outra banda de Derakh e Shuck. E, por último, o filme de Joe Hahn, The Seed que foi lançado em 2005.

A banda também trabalhou na criação de “New Divide”, a canção tema do novo filme de Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Com dois dias de lançamento, “New Divide” já alcançou o primeiro lugar no iTunes.
